Election Best Practices 2007

The winner of the 2007 NACRC Best Practice in the field of Elections was announced at the Annual Conference held in Richmond, Va.  Entries ranged from internal election management best practices to partnering with external entities.  Eight entries were submitted spanning the country from the East Coast, West Coast and America’s Heartland.

This year’s winner is…Barbara Kirkman, Supervisor of Elections from Clay County, Fla., for her Move the Vote Program. This innovative program capitalized on a partnership with the local and state association of realtors in an effort to keep the voter registration database up-to-date and accurate.  Recognizing this effort requires a partnership with the public, Barbara Kirkman approached the local realtors and developed “Move the Vote”, a program where real estate offices provide a packet of information, including a voter registration application, to individuals when they purchase a home in the area.  The “Move the Vote” campaign utilized posters, flyers, lapel pins, window clings and litter bags.  Next year this program is being adopted statewide, partnering with all 67 Florida counties and the Florida Association of Realtors.  “Have you Moved your Vote?”
